Dependent Child Turns 19

Dependent Child Turns 19

Your child's 19th birthday may not seem like a huge milestone, but there is one major change affecting your benefits under the Health & Welfare Trust. Dependents who are age 19 to 24 must provide proof of full-time student status on a form supplied by the Trust Office to retain Welfare coverage. This evidence must be supplied twice a year.

Benefit Plan Checklist
Students must send in their school schedule every semester or quarter if they wish to retain coverage. If the schedule is not submitted to the Trust office, a COBRA notice will be sent.
If you do not supply evidence of student status or if your child is no longer a student, the child may be eligible for COBRA Continuation Coverage for up to 36 months.
If your child becomes totally disabled prior to turning age 19, the child may be eligible to continue as a dependent under your coverage.
