Disability | If you become totally and permanently disabled, you are entitled to begin receiving benefits regardless of your age.
The Trustees require a Social Security Disability Award to establish the existence of a total and permanent disability. Exceptions are permitted only for individuals who have applied for a Social Security award and who suffer from a terminal illness, and for individuals who have not made sufficient payments into the Social Security system to qualify for disability benefits.
Termination of Covered Employment | You are entitled to receive your entire account balance in a lump sum payment if you are not working for a contributing employer and during the most recent complete Plan Year (July 1 though June 30) you worked fewer than 300 hours in covered employment.
Under the Internal Revenue Code you cannot receive this benefit unless you have terminated your employment relationship with the last employer in whose employment you last earned benefit credit under the Plan. Effective for benefits earned after October 28, 1991, you will not be considered retired and eligible for payment during any month in which you work 40 hours or more in the plumbing and pipefitting industry, unless you are working as an Inspector for a city, county or the State of California.
